| Before I start tutoring a student, I have to go through a series of assessment. From the moment I first
meet my student to the first 10 minutes of conversation. There are questions being answered concerning how I should approach the situation. The questions allow me to find out the current status of student`s knowledge, performance and attitude. I will analyze the situation and take different approaches for different scenarios. Building the foundation is important. After the assessment, knowing what the student need the most, I will recommend and teach them certain learning methods and mnemonic systems. Then, I will go over the part of the required knowledge and skills that the student lacks. There is no one-size-fit-all tutoring. Each of my students is unique. Each student has his or her own strength and weakness, preferences and dislikes. I will take different approach for each individual student. Yet, the approach may change over time as student improve and mature. As student advances to an appropriate skill level, I will introduce more advanced mnemonic systems and study methods. With all of the tools the student possesses, student will be able to gain knowledge and experience every time he or she encounter a new problem. Mnemonic system allow students associate the study topics to something they are familiar. Through practices, students would be able to integrate a series of steps into one simple problem solving action like a second nature. As students acquire the skills and knowledge, they are encouraged to review and use them as much as possible. For example, most people must hear a new word 30 times to remember it forever. If the student forget everything one has learned, it is purposeless. All of the efforts were in vain. Multiple methods will be used to help student to gain experience, build proficiency and permanent memory.
