Employment
Information
Prospective tutors please download and
complete the following application (Word
07 Word 2003
MS Works
ODT) and send
it to us via e-mail. If you are not able to open the
application in one of these formats, try installing
the OpenOffice.org
document editor.
E-mail your application (*as an attachment) to:
jobs@steppingstonetutors.com
NOTE: In the subject line of your
email include the city you are applying for and the
primary subjects you can tutor (i.e. math, science,
English, etc.).
Please only apply if you are a college graduate with
tutoring or teaching experience and you will be available
for a full school year (September - June). We will contact
you by email if we have an opening for your subject
area and location to schedule an interview. Math and
science are our most requested subjects but we do have
a lot of customers looking for elementary tutoring and
some English and foreign language tutoring. Internet
access and reliable transportation are required.
Tutors must be available for an entire school year
(September - June). Tutoring takes place in students
homes or at a mutually agreed upon location such as
a library, coffee shop, or office. Tutors must be willing
to drive up to 20 minutes (from their home or work address)
to meet with students. Tutors on average work 5-15 hours
per week (depending on the subjects you can tutor -
more subjects usually means more hours). Other factors
include your availability, and our demand which more
or less follows the school calendar.
It is your responsibility to call the customer to schedule
a time that will work for both you and the student within
24 hours of receiving an assignment. For current employment
opportunities see our ads in your local craigslist.org
(jobs:education/teaching jobs). We offer competitive
pay and flexible hours. Tutors work part-time as independent
contractors (1099). We will not withhold taxes and will
not report your income to the IRS unless you earn more
than $600 in a calendar year.
Because you are not compensated separately for gas
you can use your mileage as a year-end tax deduction.
After you start working with your first student, we
will send you a login/password for our online reporting
site (available 24 hrs per day) where you will need
to log your hours, due on the 14th and last day of each
month. For more information about working for Stepping
Stone Tutors, download our employee
handbook.

24 Hour Cancellation Policy
If a customer cancels or is a "no-show" within
this time period include it as a 1 hour session on your
time sheet and note the circumstances. You will still
get paid for 1 hour of tutoring unless the customer
had a legitimate emergency.
Payroll
Pay checks will go out on the 1st day of each month
unless otherwise indicated. Any hours not reported by
the last day of the previous month will be paid during
the next pay period. You should receive an email reminder
2-3 days before your time sheets are due.
Time Reporting
These need to be completed online twice a month: on
the 14th day and the last day, e.g. 30th, 31st of each
month. Make sure to include any relevant comments regarding
your sessions including cancellations or "no-shows"
which get billed as 1 hour sessions.
