Job Information
Please only apply
if you are a college graduate with tutoring or teaching
experience. We will contact you by email if we have
an opening for your subject area and location to schedule
an interview. Math and science are our most requested
subjects but we do have a lot of customers looking for
elementary tutoring and some English and foreign language
tutoring.
Internet access and
reliable transportation are required. Tutors must be
available for an entire school year (September - June).
Tutoring takes place in students homes or at a mutually
agreed upon location such as a library, coffee shop,
or office. Tutors must be willing to drive up to 20
minutes (from their home address) to work with students.
Most tutors work
5-10 hours per week (depending on the subjects you can
tutor - more subjects usually means more hours). Other
factors include your availability, and our demand which
more or less follows the school calendar. It is your
responsibility to call the customer to schedule a time
that will work for both you and the student within 24
hours.
For current employment
opportunities see our ads in your local craigslist.org
(jobs:education/teaching jobs). We offer competitive
pay and flexible hours. Tutors work part-time as independent
contractors. As an independent contractor, we will not
withhold taxes and will not report your income to the
IRS unless you earn more than $600 in a calendar year.
Because you are not compensated separately for gas you
can use your mileage as a year-end tax deduction.
After you start working
with your first student, we will send you a login/password
for our online reporting site where you will need to
log your hours, due on the 14th and last day of each
month. For more information about working for Stepping
Stone Tutors, download
